Montreal has a cool bikeshare system called Bixi. For a few bucks you have the ability to take a bike out of any one of the electronically controlled racks scattered around the city and ride it to another location. You can keep the bike for up to 30 minutes per ride for no additional charge. We used it quite a bit around the city, but some of the hills are pretty monstrous.
There is occasionally a problem with too many bikes (or none at all) at a location so there are trucks that redistribute them periodically:
Overall it is a really neat system, it works because there are numerous spots to pick up and drop off the bikes, so you can go pretty much anywhere in the center city.
